To apply for federal and state financial aid programs (including grants, work-study, student loans, and TOPS scholarships) students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
How to Apply
To help ensure consideration for the greatest amount of available aid, students should submit the FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1.
Students must complete a new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for each academic year, which runs from August through July. A FAFSA submitted for a previous academic year will not apply to future academic years.
Submitting the FAFSA early may improve eligibility for limited funding opportunities, including state grants and scholarships offered by ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) determines dependency status using federal guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Education. Factors that may affect dependency status include:
Most students under the age of 24 are considered dependent students and must provide parent information on the FAFSA. Dependency status is not based on whether a parent claims the student as a dependent on a tax return.
FAFSA verification is a process used to confirm the accuracy of information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Because FAFSA information is primarily self-reported, some students may be required to submit additional documentation for review.
If verification is required, the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Financial Aid Office will notify the student of any required documents. Students may also review outstanding requirements through under Financial Aid Application Status.
Verification processing times may vary depending on when all required documents are received. Financial aid eligibility cannot be determined until the verification process has been completed. Submitting a FAFSA early may help reduce delays in processing and awarding financial aid.
Students can check their financial aid status by logging into and selecting Financial Aid Application Status. From there, choose the appropriate aid year to view any outstanding requirements.
Be sure to review your status for missing documents or alerts that may indicate required action. If selected for verification, submit all requested documentation as soon as possible. Processing may take up to two weeks after all required documents are received.
Students should keep copies of all documents submitted for their records.
Students can view their financial aid awards by logging into and selecting Financial Aid, then Financial Aid Awards. Choose the appropriate aid year to review available grants, loans, and scholarships.
A paper award notification will also be mailed to the address listed on your student account. Financial aid funds will appear in the credited (posted) section of your student account after the official census date for the semester or session in which you are enrolled.
To use your financial aid toward tuition and fees, you must first accept your aid in .
