MIAMI -- Former ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ pitcher Cade Gibson made his Major League Baseball debut on Easter Sunday with the Miami Marlins, throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings.

Entering the game down 4-1 to the Philadelphia Phillies, Gibson’s performance helped the Marlins hang around before the team completed the comeback with a 7-5 win in 10 innings.

The Marlins still trailed when Gibson left the mound, but he stabilized the game to set up the comeback.

Gibson is the first-ever former ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ player to appear in an MLB game.

The Ruston native (Ruston High) played at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ in 2017 and 2018 as a pitcher and an outfielder.

On the mound, he combined for a 7-8 record in 24 appearances (18 starts).

Gibson was named to the 2017 Red River Conference All-Tournament Team as a freshman in 2017. ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ won the RRAC Conference Tournament in 2017 and the regular season title in 2018, both with NAIA Regional appearances.

He transferred to Louisiana Tech starting with the 2019 season, becoming a starter in the Bulldogs rotation in 2021 and 2022.

Gibson logged wins against No. 4 Ole Miss in 2021 and No. 2 LSU in 2022.

In his final season, Gibson was selected Second Team All-Conference USA before being drafted in the 10^th round by the Marlins in 2022.

His rise through the uppercrust of the minor leagues happened quickly, starting with Double-A Pensacola in 2024 and Triple-A Jacksonville just this season before making his MLB debut.

The 27-year-old is part of the Marlins’ 40-man roster, but he was optioned back to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday.

In Jacksonville, Gibson is 1-1 with a 4.26 ERA and one save in five appearances (12 2/3 innings) this season.
